Ritual Theater
The Art of Storytelling
August 28 – 30, 2026 at Ravenwind, Unity, NH
Join us for a weekend of practicing the arts of ritual story telling with performer, singer and soul initiation guide, Sara McFarland. Storytelling is a sacred art and ancient tradition of relationship with the Rio Abajo Rio, or, the river under the river, as Estes says. Stories whispered from the earth, waters, and wild ones, archetypal tales and those upwelling through our own souls are carried as the songlines of culture and personal mythos.
The ritual practice of storytelling is a magical shapeshifting, a portal opening, a consciousness craft. We travel time, place and worlds, weaving past, present and future, as well as the personal and collective.
To open yourself to the story that is longing for you, ask, which story has you and demands to be told? Then you begin to apprentice to the story itself- how do you embody it, speak it, adorn it and conjure sacred space for its telling? Participants will come with a personal numinous story or ancient myth and over the course of the weekend, Sara will break-down the elements of art and form for you to practice and deliver its sacred telling.
During our time together, we will drink deeply from the waters of soul, myth and ancestral wisdom. We will listen to the voices of the watershed that is Ravenwind’s Earth community. We will tend the song-lines and threads of stories that have us allured and enchanted, asking to be told, whether the story is of a personal numinous encounter with the Holy in the Wild or a Myth of our people that we carry.
The first afternoon will be a ceremony of arriving, listening, shifting consciousness and deepening into place, listening for the voices of the land and waters, introducing ourselves and meeting the wild beings on the land. That evening, Sara, Hologram Heart, will tell one of the “big stories” and we will feed the story at the altar of our awareness and our attention.
On Saturday, we will journey to meet the archetypal “storyteller of you”, you will learn to “wander with” a story, listen for the “understory”, and practice trance, shifting consciousness, and voice techniques. Saturday evening we will drum or rattle and enter the trance through dance/movement of the story you are carrying.
Sunday will be spent in ritual theater, each person sharing the story wanting to be told through them.
Begin: 1pm on August 28, finish at 3pm Sunday the 30th
This is an all-gender immersion. $495 includes 6 meals and camping.
